Tijdschrift Vogue start opleiding in Londen

De uitgever van onder meer Vogue en Women’s Wear Daily, werkt aan een fashion- en designopleiding in Londen. Dat blijkt uit een advertentie op de website van de uitgever, Conde Nast Digital. Voor de opleiding, die postdoctorale en andere cursussen zal bevatten, zoekt de uitgever nog een directeur voor het oprichten en beheren van het opleidingencentrum.

Mode & interieur
De cursussen zullen waarschijnlijk de naam krijgen van de magazines die over de onderwerpen gaan; zoals Vogue over mode en House & Garden over huisinrichting. Volgens de website van Vogue gaat het vooral om postdoctorale cursussen, voor designers die al zijn afgestudeerd, maar zich nog verder willen ontplooien.

Samenwerking relevante academies.
De opleiding streeft naar contacten met universiteiten en andere relevante academische instellingen als Central Saint Martins en London College of Fashion. Ook een samenwerking met de tijdschriften die Condé Nast uitgeeft, ziet de school wel zitten.

Het is de bedoeling om in het eerste jaar 300 studenten op te leiden. De nieuwe directeur zal verantwoordelijk zijn voor de cursussen, het beheren van een klein academisch en administratief team en toezicht houden op freelance medewerkers. Ook zal de directeur een deel van zijn of haar tijd besteden aan lesgeven. Dit omdat de vaste staf klein is en de school wel grote ambities heeft.

CONDE NAST INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF FASHION AND DESIGN

Conde Nast is seeking a Director to start and oversee a new educational establishment based in London aimed at providing foundation level, post graduate and further education courses, starting in the area of fashion and subsequently covering the area of design. These courses, possibly branded Vogue and House & Garden respectively, will feature different aspects of the subjects and will be offered in varying lengths through the year. It is envisaged that approximately 300 students will be invited to enrol across the first year.

The person appointed to this role will be responsible for all aspects of the school, including its commercial success. He/she will also take overall responsibility for designing and delivering the courses. They will manage a small academic and administrative team, and oversee freelance staff. They will take charge of marketing the courses, representing the institution in the wider environments of fashion and education, complying with legal requirements, with the possibility of forging links with universities and other relevant academic institutions.

The background of this person should ideally incorporate impeccable academic credentials, several years of high level experience within a commercially focused academic institution, combined with knowledge and experience of the fashion and/or design industry. Given the initial ambitions for this institute, based around a small permanent staff, it is envisaged that this person will also spend part of his or her time teaching. This person will report to the Managing Director of Conde Nast UK and, in certain cases, will work closely with staff on the magazines.
